Project timeline: Week of October 1st – Week of December 11th (11 weeks total)
Who you are:
- A graduate/professional student (i.e. PhD, MS, MBA, MD, PharmD), postdoc, or recent graduate
- Enthusiastic about gaining life-science business experience and helping a company profile the landscape of DNA sequencing technologies in cancer diagnostics.
- Eager to build communication skills and professional network through presenting findings to the consulting team and client
- Interest or research experience in some of the following categories: cancer diagnostics, DNA probe synthesis, market landscaping, product development, and commercialization strategy
- Able to commit 10-15 hours/week as a volunteer
What you will do:
You will be working with an early-stage biotechnology company with a novel methodology for developing DNA probes. The company is seeking to use this DNA synthesis platform as a tool for cancer diagnostics and is seeking to better understand how sequencing-based tools are currently used in the existing cancer diagnostic market. In addition, you will help the company develop a strategy based on the scientific viability and clinical prevalence of different cancers and sample types. You will synthesize information from primary literature, clinical trials, investor reports, and conduct primary research with experts in the field to inform your recommendations.
What you will get:
- Experience conducting consulting-style research including target and asset prioritization, market and competitive landscaping, and clinical trial information synthesis in collaboration with an early-stage biotech startup
- Development of your professional network and communication skills through interactions with the client, interviewed stakeholders, your teammates, and BCBA leadership
- Skills that will make you highly competitive for entrepreneurial, consulting, venture capital, and business development careers
- Reimbursement for meals during team meetings
