Clinical Adoption Strategy for Novel Cancer Screening Test

by | June 4th, 2026

We are currently recruiting for the following project: Clinical Adoption Strategy for Novel Cancer Screening Test

Who we are:

BCBA connects academic science trainees and recent graduates to the Bay Area’s biotech industry through hands-on consulting and due diligence projects. We are a volunteer organization composed of PhD students, post-docs, medical trainees, and young professionals looking to gain professional development for jobs in biotech companies, consulting, and venture capital. Over 500 scientists from across the country have participated in BCBA projects and have gone on to internships and full-time positions with leading biotech companies, consulting firms, and venture capital firms.

Project timeline: Week of June 9th – Week of September 1st (12 weeks)

Who you are:

  • Graduate or professional student (PhD, MS, MBA, MD, PharmD), postdoc, or recent advanced-degree graduate
  • Enthusiastic about gaining life science business experience by analyzing clinical evidence landscapes and navigating the intersection of medical policy and commercial strategy
  • Eager to develop communication skills through team collaboration, consulting-style presentations, and engaging with key stakeholders
  • Able to commit 10-15 hours/week in a volunteer capacity
  • Bonus: interest or experience in areas such as health policy, clinical research, population health, health economics and outcomes research (HEOR), or medical society guideline processes

What you will do:

For a new diagnostic test to be widely adopted in clinical practice and receive broad insurance coverage, it must earn an official recommendation from major medical societies and coverage agencies. In this project, you will work closely with a clinical-stage diagnostics company to build the evidence strategy needed to earn these endorsements for the client’s novel cancer screening test for colorectal cancer

You will research how major medical societies and coverage agencies evaluate and recommend new screening tests, and analyze the successes and failures of previous colorectal cancer screening tests. You will also interview clinicians and other key stakeholders to understand which endorsements most influence real-world prescribing decisions. Synthesizing these findings, you will compare the client’s existing evidence against what each target organization requires, and develop a prioritized roadmap for which organizations to approach and in what order.

For scientists interested in how promising research translates into clinical practice, this project is an opportunity to understand the evidence, policy, and stakeholder forces that determine whether a novel test reaches patients.

What you will get:

  • Experience conducting consulting-style research including clinical evidence analysis, competitive landscaping, policy and guideline mapping, and stakeholder interview design
  • Development of your professional network and communication skills through interactions with the client, KOLs, your teammates, and BCBA leadership
  • Skills that will make you highly competitive for careers in healthcare consulting, venture capital, and business development
  • Reimbursement for meals during team meetings

To Apply: Please submit this Google form by June 9th, 2026.
